Starfield is a single-player sci-fi epic, and a initial new diversion array from Bethesda — builder of The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom and Wolfenstein — in 25 years.

And it certain sounds like it’s a initial diversion to be announced for a next-generation gaming console. Not a PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One X, though a mint era of hardware that hasn’t even been announced yet.

That’s a word from Bethesda executive writer and executive Todd Howard, who told Eurogamer that when he pronounced “next-generation” he privately meant a multiple of next-gen hardware, next-gen program and next-gen gameplay, not only one of a three.

“What systems we put it out on — what’s a hardware mandate — is still to be determined,” Howard told a publication. “We’re pulling it; we’re meditative very, really distant in destiny so we’re building something that will hoop next-generation hardware. That’s what we’re building on right now, that’s where a mind is, though that doesn’t meant it wouldn’t exist on a stream systems as well.”

So it’s probable you’ll see a chronicle of PS4, Xbox or Switch too. There’s typically a transitory duration when new consoles arrive, anyhow. But Howard told a sister site GameSpot that it’s “not out of a question” for a diversion to skip current-gen consoles entirely.

Mind you, Howard didn’t contend a word “console,” and we’re not nonetheless transparent what next-gen consoles competence demeanour like, or if they’ll be consoles during all. At E3, Microsoft pronounced it was building a subsequent Xbox consoles, with a gossip pegging them for a year 2020. Meanwhile, Sony has cryptically hinted its subsequent PlayStation competence arrive in 2021

But both Sony and Microsoft are also operative on diversion streaming, as are EA and reportedly Google. So don’t be astounded if your subsequent console lives in a cloud.

Bethesda didn’t immediately respond to a ask for comment.
